My Hairdressing Journey
My name is Chanae Hiller, I am the owner of Ahead of Style Hair Artistry. I am 30 years old and blissfully married, I have been with my husband going on 14 years now, we have two beautiful children together, needless to say I am very busy and so fortunate to be able to continue to do what I love and that is create beautiful hair.
I have always had a passion for hairdressing, ever since I was a little girl, I used to go to the salon with my mum and sit and watch her have her hair done, mesmerized. I distinctly remember seeing my mum beaming with confidence as we left the salon and thinking 'When I'm older I want to make people feel beautiful.'
So began my journey to become the best hairstylist I can be...
I started with a few hours a week volunteering at age 13, in the same salon my mum used to get her hair done.
In 2004, at age 14 I started work experience at Ja' Jah's Hair Studio, working Thursday nights and Saturdays weekly, as soon as I completed year 10 I was offered an apprenticeship at two salons, I chose to stay at Ja' Jah's. I signed on as an apprentice straight away, Feb 2005.
I was to complete a 4 year apprenticeship, after 3 years I was assessed and they found me to be competent in all aspects of hairdressing therefore my 3rd year became my last year and I became a qualified Hairdresser April 2008 aged 18.
For the following 3 years at Ja Jah's not only did I continue to grow and learn as a stylist but I also helped educate the apprentices in all forms of hairdressing mainly focusing on styling.
I was then offered the opportunity to take my career further, so in 2011 I started managing a newly opened salon, Envious Hair and Beauty Culture, once the salon was established I decided to once again hone my focus on hair and continued the next 2 years at Envious as a senior stylist.
My husband and I were blessed to have a baby girl in September 2014, I have always wanted to be a hairdresser and more so a mum, I’m the luckiest girl in the world both my dreams have come true.
I took time off work and spent 6 months as a stay at home mum, in this time realised that I can have the best of both worlds, so I started my own business Ahead of Style Hair Artistry.
I have built a successful business which I am proud of, I am sought after and highly recommended not only by suppliers and vendors in the bridal industry but makeup artists and fellow hairstylists.
How lucky I am to have the power to completely change not only the way someone looks but more importantly the way someone feels about themselves. For me, there is no bigger or better reward then seeing my client happy and confident.
